Vientiane, 13 February 2018 – Uganda delegation visited National Implementation Unit (NIU), Department of Planning and Cooperation at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) for a two-day study visit, 13 – 14 February 2018. The purpose of visit was to study how trade development projects implemented and managed in Lao PDR.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sirisamphanh Vorachith, Director General of Department of Planning and Cooperation (DPC), MoIC. The Director General of DPC officially welcomed Uganda delegation to MoIC, and provided brief information about the economic development in Lao PDR, including, measures and priorities in trade development; cooperation between the government and development partners; assistance for Lao private sectors.

Following by a presentation on Lao Trade and Private Development program, presented by the National Implementation Unit (NIU), DPC, MoIC. The presentation focused on vision and development priorities; strategic pillars for improving trade environment in Lao PDR; role of Trade and Private Sector Working Group, Aid for Trade governance framework: Program Executive Committee and Program Review Committee Meetings; evolving roles of NIU; key outputs and challenges in implementing development projects and pipeline projects.

During the meeting, Uganda delegation asked a number of questions related to development projects such as structure, roadmap and framework for implementing development projects. At the end of the meeting, Uganda delegation had a courtesy visit to Mr. Somchit Inthamith, Deputy Minister of MoIC, and thanked NIU team and MoIC for their warm welcome, useful information and experiences in executing trade development projects in Lao PDR.
