A consultation meeting was held with key stakeholders at Ministry of Industry and Commerce on September 12th, 2017 to discuss findings of the Value-Chain Study on key commodities including pork and meat; issue on roadside checkpoints and inspection along the national routes and major transit corridors throughout the country; and a case study on barriers to exports of agricultural products under contract farming at Vang Tao-XongMek international border checkpoint, Champasak province. Over 20 representatives from line government departments and private sector attended the meeting.


The half day meeting presented research findings of the studies and proposed recommendations for consideration of improving the current situation of roadside checkpoints and inspection which creates unnecessary costs and burdens to good shipment businesses in particular. Also, various comments and suggestions were received from line government agencies especially on strengthening cooperation among relevant agencies to overcome such issues.

The meeting was organized by Department of Import and Export of Ministry of Industry and Commerce under financial support from the Second Trade Development Facility Project (TDF-II), co-financed by Australia, the European Union, Germany, Ireland, the United States and the World Bank.
