Luang Namtha province organized new products endorsement ceremony for One District One Product (ODOP) in two Districts

Luang Namtha Province, between 15-16 March 2022, the Office of Industry and Commerce of Luang Namtha Province organized an endorsement ceremony of local products to entitle as the One District One Product (ODOP) in Luang Namtha District and Sing District, with the support by the Promotion of Export Competitiveness and Sustainability Support to Public-Private Dialogue in Northern Lao PDR (ECL) Project which is funded by the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF).

Primary objective of the events was to certify and promote local unique Handicraft product in Sinoudom Village, Luang Namtha District such as Sinh Nam Lai (Tapestry). where villagers have mastered their weaving technique and preserved well their weaving traditional., Also Aka’s textile products from Lakkham Village and fragmented beam from Namkeoluang Village inSing District were promoted as ODOP tittle, such as coasters, placemat and purse. The Office of Industry and Commerce of Luang Namtha Province aims to reduce poverty in local by promoting production and supply of traditional handicrafts to the market through the concept of ODOP. The promotion is believed to produce income for local households particularly women-led in far-isolated area.

The ceremony was chaired by the Director of the Office of Industry and Commerce of Luang Namtha Province. More than 60 participants (45 women) including the representatives of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, the Department of Trade Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the group leaders of the products and other relevant sectors.

“One District One Product” (ODOP) development is set at the National Level to support Lao people to increase the economic scales through the unique product of the local households in the district level, which aligns with the Lao National Socio-Economic Development Plan for poverty reduction.

This activity was supported by ECL Project which is funded by the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF). EIF is an Aid for Trade partnership in action for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The ECL Project intends to promote private sector-led economic growth in the least developed Northern Region of the country in response to the Government’s eight National Socio-Economic Development Plan (NSEDP). The project consists of three components: Improvement of the local business environment, Enhancement of productivity and exports of critical sectors, and project management.
